Gray vs. ductile iron
Continuous cast gray iron and ductile iron are ideal metals for different applications. Gray iron contains graphite flakes in its microstructure, while ductile iron has graphite clusters. The flakes in gray iron lead to lower tensile strength and elongation, making gray iron ideal for metal bearings and the hydraulics industry.
